Extensive renovations in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries have culminated in a unique architectural tapestry showing off both the original Gothic underpinnings and newer Baroque elements. In addition to these two important churches you will need to ensure that you have time to visit Santo Stefano in the heart of the old town which is a complex of four churches built to signify the Passion of the Christ as well as the many other medieval churches within the town itself.

A truly unforgettable experience is a visit to San Luca Church which rests on a hill overlooking the city. There are a number of ways to get to the building itself but you will want to be sure you take the walk up if you are able as this scenic route takes you along six hundred and sixty-six arches which make up the longest Portico in the world. Along the way and especially once you have made it to the top, you will be rewarded with magnificent views of Bologna and the surrounding countryside.
